Solar Eclipse

June 18, 2017

As many of you know, there will be a total solar eclipse happening on August 21st. This is the first complete eclipse that will be visible in the contiguous United States since 1979 and the experts concur that the best location to view this phenomena will take place near Hopkinsville, KY. An extremely large crowd is expected to be on hand, with 9 of the 10 nearby campgrounds already booked full.

Should there be a need to deploy firefighters and equipment for this eclipse, we are looking to put together a list of people and equipment that will be available from August 19-22. These dates are tentative and may be adjusted accordingly. This will be a strictly volunteer deployment, with no payment or reimbursement available. Volunteers will be housed in local fire departments during this deployment.

If you are interested, please email me at (ronnie.day@kctcs.edu) a list of interested personnel and available equipment so that we may begin to compile a list.

Thank you.
