Monica Watson Rath, 42, of Newport, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Monica was a graduate of Newport Central Catholic High School. She was the events coordinator and operations manager of the Southgate Community Center; owner of Action Safety Training; member of the Advisory Commission of the Department of Charitable Gaming; a 20 year veteran of the Southgate Volunteer Fire Department, a certified Firefighter, Apparatus Operator, Certified CPR instructor and an Emergency Medical Technician. She was the Secretary of the Kentucky Firefighters Association where she served as the first and only female member on their Executive Board. She is survived by her husband, Steve Rath; sons, Donnie Watson, Andrew Rath and Michael Rath; daughter, Chelsie Watson (Nick Shay); parents, Wayne and Marlene (Wessling) Watson; grandma, Helen Watson; sisters, Malissa Lang and Malinda Lopez; brothers, Michael Wayne Watson (Stephanie McAlpin) and Marc (Lori) Watson; grandson, Jordan; granddaughter, Estella; mother-in-law, Beverly (late Bruce) Rath; sister-in-law, Shelia Watson; brothers-in-law, Jeff Rath and Scott (Jenny) Rath; many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation 1:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, March 15 at the Southgate Community Center, 301 W. Walnut St., Southgate KY. Mass 11:00 am on Wednesday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Burial in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor, KY.
