Joe Johnson is the Shelby County 911 Coordinator and a former Henry County and McMahn firefighter who is battling cancer. Joe has served his community his entire life, starting as a junior firefighter at a small fire department in Henry County when he was 12 years old. He went on to pursue his career in firefighting at McMahan Fire Department in Louisville, where he served for 27 years. In 2014, he became the Director of 911 Communications for Shelby County. So as you can see, Joe has served the communities of Henry County, Jefferson County, and Shelby County during his lifetime. Now it's time for these communities to give back. Just wanted to share the good news that we had today. SB 195 Cancer Bill passed out of the House today with all yea votes. It now goes to the Governor for his signature. I will keep you posted. After Monday, there will only be 1 more step before Kentucky fire fighters finally receive the recognition that we all deserve in regards to cancer presumption, singing by the Governor. Monica Watson Rath, 42, of Newport, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Monica was a graduate of Newport Central Catholic High School. She was the events coordinator and operations manager of the Southgate Community Center; owner of Action Safety Training; member of the Advisory Commission of the Department of Charitable Gaming; a 20 year veteran of the Southgate Volunteer Fire Department, a certified Firefighter, Apparatus Operator, Certified CPR instructor and an Emergency Medical Technician. Funeral Arrangements for Southgate Firefighter/EMT and KFA Secretary Monica Rath: Visitation: Visitation for Monica will be on Tuesday March 15, from 1 to 8 pm at the Southgate Community Center, 301 West Walnut St., Southgate KY, 41071. Two firefighters will stand Honor Guard for Monica during the entire visitation. Firefighters will rotate in fifteen minute shifts.
